china is out-shining the whole world lately, and they were at india's level 100 years ago. it is tempting to ask, "what did they do, and can we do it too?" this question should be asked, but the answer is "no." there is radical difference in the history of india and china, before and after that point of similar poverty. but on the 'can't hurt' list, spending more money on education for all, and less for military posturing comes immediately to mind. but that is long-term investment, anathema to western politicians, and indian as well, unfortunately. basically, india needs a mao ci dung. all you've got is modi. god help you.
