the taliban are not lovable people. most are presumably narrow, ill-educated farmers with an ak47 and good eyesight. there are a few technicians among them.
not good neighbors. but, how did this come to be? afghanistan was becoming more modern until the cia took a hand, and it turns out that the only remaining resistance to foreign domination was those hard-case farmers. afghanistan was sown by the cia, and i find the resulting sour fruit intensely amusing.
indian participation in the foreign domination was insane, but getting into bed with the usa is understandable. indian politicians are to blame for the vast disparity in development between china and india, and , as usual, foreign war distracts from domestic failure.
pakistan will cultivate trade and protection with china, if only in self-defense, as india is emboldened by usa 'support.' or stimulated by puppet-strings of cash. they have an interest with iran as well. the sunni-shia problem is there, but the paks are not crazy, reality may cause them to be liberal in this area. even the taliban should make this adjustment, but that could be a bridge too far.
