'compelling ' nations only works if the people are unarmed, or unpatriotic. the taliban are unlovable, but it's their nation. the vietnamese held off the best of usa and it's clients, and the french before them, because they had weapons and an aversion to foreign rule. give these people's credit: they didn't win because their attackers made mistakes, they won because they had the means and courage to fight. usa will explain its failures as the weakness of 'someone else.' but usa is an imperial aggressor, and its failures owes most to its own moral corruption.
