putin has created a situation wherein usa can make war on his army in ukraine without consequence in usa, aside from printing more money. ukraine is a proxy war, and the only certain losers are ukrainian. their government might wish they had not taken the bribe. their people may wonder 'what were they thinking,,,' putin can not be enjoying the situation, he may still think it's better than submission to usa encroachment, usa masters are certainly happy, for now. the situation is stable, for the short term. when putin has carved off part of ukraine and fended off the usa/nato support, peace will descend on the corpse of ukraine. but usa/nato is remorseless, they may resile briefly, but they will be back. putin must find a way to hurt nato directly. shooting captured foreign soldiers would be a clear signal.
