read 'decline and fall of the roman empire' as a young lad. interesting for the battles, but in retrospect, the value of the denarius is equally important, and as the silver was slowly replaced by copper, so the empire declined. not co-incidence, it turns out.
the evil empire can sink beneath the sea, and much of the east coast will do that, the west coast will be devastated by fire, flood and tectonic plate wiggles, and some or all of the usa will likely be visited by the supervolcano under yellowstone.
so will the evil empire be erased by god, or merely shredded by greed, arrogance and institutional idiocy?
isn't it exciting?

can't work together, usa is determined to be the world hegemon, china will have equality, at least.
but it's wrong to talk about nations, since most people play no role in decision. only the swiss, really.
usa government is an adjunct of the rich and well-to-do people, who are used to running the world for their profit.
they won't compromise until they see the muzzle of a gun. and they hire people to do that. prc is developing faster, is better integrated, and suspects they are smarter.
we will be lucky to survive this struggle. i believe the best strategy for the ants is to gnaw at the foundations of usa wealth and power. at the very least, stop pretending usa is directed by any principle but greed and arrogance, supported by professional murderers and thugs.

the trade war is lost. so usg reverts to type, and threatens war. by itself it is a significant presence, but not overwhelming. so the plan seems to be, lure, buy or threaten support in sufficient size to frighten prc into submission. this will not work. actual war is suicidal. so prc will simply continue building roads and trade, and mutually advantageous treaties. 10 years from now, usa will split into 3 pieces, as gb has done, and become just innocuous 'usttabe grand' nations.
or so i hope. the alternative is armageddon, quite a lively possibility. the orcs who run usa have no recent experience with successful resistance. to them, i urge that they give deep thought to the viet nam war. usa never lost a battle, but couldn't beat a people equipped with 2nd hand weapons and 1st class courage.

i'm not afraid of xjp. he is sane and competent, from what i can see. and china is advancing daily in wealth and power. he has no reason to rip up the world.
biden is senile, was never very competent, and is merely the front man for the rulers of usa empire. presumably chosen because faction leaders could not tolerate the rule of any one from that group.
biden is a danger, every time he opens his mouth. he may deviate from script at any moment.
what china is going to do is increase pressure on taiwan commerce, constrict foreign relations, and aim to occupy in 5 years time. by then, usa will be weaker, taiwan people more inclined to re-join china.
usa will use every means to hold on to empire, short of war. but they will threaten war, for lack of attractive policies. this creates a tight-rope for xjp and several others - putin has grasped the nettle of real war, and has demonstrated that usa only will fight with money. and the money is increasingly without value.
the situation is complex, but i guess prc will prevail, in some sense, because underneath the guns and lies, usa has nothing to offer anymore. prc is fresh and vigorous, building infrastructure and commerce. they are the future, so long as usa doesn't blow-up the world.

what a silly question! rhetorical, no doubt.
usa is an evil pustule on the face of humanity. it may be genetic, but more likely transmitted by education of the young in the path of evil. the death of useless people is of no concern to the uber-race.
usa was born that way, and it turns out, evil prospers, when society is designed by evil.
glad to hear the people of prc are surpassing usa in another area. usa is throwing every resource at them, and the outcome of this struggle is not clear yet. so long as the contest is commercial, we may hope prc will win.
but they are threatening war, and god knows [and korea, vietnam, iraq and afghanistan, etc.] they are not visibly inhibited by the prospect of bringing death and destruction to any obstinate nation. usa and prc are going to play russian roulette over taiwan. i hope usa blinks, or i may not be far enough away from the fall-out.

it's true, the 2nd amendment offers a protection against government, and i would support holding on to it. unfortunately, it doesn't work. usa society accepts the ideas of capitalism, and poverty, gun crime and pervasive drug crime result. in principle, having a judge stand between arrest by the government and the individual is a good idea, but somehow the rich get away with fraud more often than the poor.
most chinese seem well- satisfied with their government, and it's not just the current prosperity. that's clearly helpful, but i lived there in the 90's and everyone was uncertain about the future, but most thought the central committee had the situation under control. deng xiao ping is never going to be the giant figure that was mao, but his guidance was the second half of the modern resurgence of china, they should put his picture beside mao on tiananmen.

it's very easy to lie and spread lies on the web, everyday there is a new 'private' blog denigrating china. but reality is still available, because of genuine private channels such as this one.
it is not difficult to spot the real evil, just look at the objective news: 'iranian government officer [and several bystanders] murdered by drone.' 'venezuelan trade interdicted by us navy' and of course there is the 16 year occupation of iraq, floating on a monstrous lie.
i decided, back in vietnam days, that the government of my native land was entirely in the hands of sociopathic monsters who would hang if they did not direct the biggest military establishment in the world. if anything it has gotten worse, frequently shameless and unrestrained in their crimes.
saves a lot of thought. usa--- bad! anyone else, possibly good, certainly not as bad.
'On 3 January 2020, a United States drone strike near Baghdad International Airport targeted and killed Iranian major general Qasem Soleimani while he was purportedly planning to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi in Baghdad.'
when did public murder become an acceptable tool of foreign affairs?

you may not know, but speaking chinese is no big deal. not only are there lots, and lots, of chinese, but more, and more, non-chinese see it in their personal interest to speak mandarin, and the good news, it's easier than french, or even spanish.
simplest structure of any major language, very few anomalies, no sounds that are hard for english speakers.
tones? well, do yer best and they will probably understand, and smile politely. musical people will catch on, the rest of us just plod on.

does biden run usa? unlikely. but whoever is calling the shots is no patriot. they are protecting wealth corporate and private, at whatever cost.
bad luck for the serfs, but their control over public affairs is nil. ironic in view of the continual reference to 'democracy.' which they have never had, the elite having grasped the principle of newspeak and doublethink way ahead of orwell.
there is no 'good guy' in this struggle, but prc is being directed for the improvement of the nation, with visible and remarkable results. doubly admirable since being accomplished in the face of fear and hatred from the evil empire and its clients.
will they win? good guys always win, since winners define good guys.
virtue has little place in human affairs. 20 years from now, the struggle may still be visible, if nuclear warfare is avoided.
alas, usa has demonstrated a willingness to exterminate cities, russia and prc will certainly strike back.
interesting times...

i am convinced that humanity can only survive if we establish democracy widely, since it is visibly clear that elite rule creates sociopathic rulers. threat of war and now climate catastrophe comes with them.
prc is about as far from democracy as you can get, without lapsing into psychotic society. even so, i find myself agreeing with their government, in its struggle with the usa. in spite of the pretense to democracy, usa is, in fact, psychotic. a danger to us all.
and there is nothing to be done, no cure. we must walk a tight-rope between submission, and triggering nuclear war. 'we,' of course, is primarily the managers of prc.
i'm sure xjp takes great satisfaction in being the current great helmsman. but, how well does he sleep?

usa was never designed to be well-run. the people who designed the usa, chiefly james madison, wanted a nation that was static. slave plantation grandees were on top, and he did all he could to make sure it stayed that way for as long as possible.
with great success, 4 of the first 5 presidents were those grandees, and the 5th promised not to rock the slave ship.
but after the civil war, slavery was illegal, but the management of the nation was locked away from the people, still.
the constitution has precluded good management, on purpose. the rich were meant to rule from the beginning, and still do- it's not an accident.
so, in 20 years, prc has come from nowhere to 2nd biggest economy in the world, while usa has decayed.
any oligarchy will decay, since predation is much easier than development, and the desire to enrich one's children regardless of their capabilities means too much development money is in the hands of selfish and greedy incompetents.

well, a golf pro would be a very unthreatening ambassador, and a very typical feature of the emergence of a cosmopolitan middle class in prc.
they aren't a communist nation, anymore. barely socialist. better to think of them as a new mandarinate, educated professionals who claim to rule the nation as the inheritors of marx, lenin, mao and deng. no tincture of democracy, nor ever likely to be, but a much better sample of china than the usa politician rulers, whose only expertise is lying, bribery and the occasional brief career in law. cp-prc is trying to control corruption, with some success, future may be less rosy.
right now they are running china very well, and tired old usa can not compete. so usa will consider going to war, that is their only remaining strong point. i hope prc is strong enough to dissuade them. there would be no winners.
the recent asean treaty shows that china's neighbors are at least remaining neutral, and even oz and japan want a piece of the pie, while conspiring to throttle china with military strictures.
interesting times.

there is no clear path to peace. the usg reacts as the great commercial forces of the usa direct, and they fear declining wealth, since it is already clear that usa iis losing market dominance. similar conditions led to ww2, and usa is in the habit of using military force to shape and control world markets.
i think, i hope, prc is already strong enough to deter actual war by the principals, but peripheral wars are certain. venezuels remains under immediate threat, iran is struggling under sanctions, but recent contracts with china and russia may relieve the stress.
the usa people are going to solve nothing. they have no power to direct their nation. they have heard of democracy, but prefer to be ruled by politicians, acting for plutocrats. they are not citizen quality people. sorry, mr janssen, you don't have the power to ease tension, and those who do, don't want to.

khomeini characterized the usa with the phrase 'great satan.' it seemed accurate at the time, if a bit florid- i'm not religious. but he was right enough, usa seeks profit through murder, piecemeal and wholesale. so, while i applaud any effort to educate ordinary usans in understanding prc, i am inclined to think it will not change the nature of usa politicians and public officials. there is also a great number of ordinary usans who are simply sociopaths, unfussed at murder done abroad is search of a market. you won't meet them on this site, i suppose, but they make their presence known elsewhere on the web.
as a simple example, consider the presence of usa in iraq and afghanistan, sanctions on iran and venezuela [plus a coup attempt!] and the continuing story of cuba.
and there's plenty of sordid history in south and central america.
so i wonder if becoming friends with the great satan is suitable to people striving for ethical life. shouldn't we be attempting to sanction usa?

only the swiss have any kind of democracy, flawed and being degraded by being encircled by eu.
many usa states have some or all the attributes of democracy, except the vital one of independence.
usa is an elective oligarchy, not a democracy. the politicians tend to be rich, and usually in the service of wealth, private or corporate, so it can be called a functional plutocracy.
prc doesn't pretend to be a democracy. it is an oligarchy, dependent on the pla for its authority.
even so, for historical reasons, the central committee tends to look after the welfare of nation and people much better than usa. because initially 'communist,' the whole world was their enemy, and the strength of the nation was the only defense of the party.
the chinese people are not citizens, merely civilians. they play no role in the management of the nation, much less direct it.
this equally true of all nations, except the swiss.
why then, is 'democracy' claimed and discussed?
because applying the word 'democracy' to all those varieties of oligarchy has killed the meaning of the word, and reduced chances of the people organizing to get democracy. it works wonderfully well.

you are wrong, mr janssen, to blame corrupt politicians. they are what they are because to social/political structure selects them. hyenas are unlovable, and watching them may disturb the softhearted. they are the politicians of the veldt. politician and hyena both evolve from nature.
this should be obvious to all. the nation was born to protect slavery, enable expropriation of the natives, and ensure the rule of the rich. the constitution reflects those goals, and guides the character of the nation.
the rich are entitled, the politicians crooked, the people cynical and frustrated, and frequently desperate, whence the shooting eruptions.
there is no quick and easy cure. in my view, there is no cure at all. there is no non-violent way to make massive change, and neither is there sufficient leadership in view to undertake radical change.
as a nation, you will follow rome into decay and history. please don't destroy the earth on the way out.

you are on the side of the angels, more or less, but the devil bats first, last, and when he wants.
greed and arrogance characterize every elite, and the usa version has overwhelming military power to support its masters.
if sanity prevails and war is prevented, prc may come to be the most powerful nation. at present, that seems like the best situation available. usa must be humbled, if we are to survive.
but prc is human too, so this can only be a reprieve, not a solution.
we must get democracy as the only possibility of establishing a balance with nature and population. elites must always have 'more,' citizens can be satisfied with 'enough.'

but the usa government is simply evil. sold their soul to the devil, because the price was attractive. there was never a day when there was hope for usa, it was born to preserve slavery, exterminate the natives, and ensure the rich ruled.
prc is run by humans, but currently they are the only power that can resist usa with effect. we everyone should do what we can to ensure usa feels too weak to attack china, your efforts are in the right direction, 加油

lies are the bullets before bullets, warfare by propaganda.
people have to figure who is lying, if they are interested in the truth, but many people just want to hear the lies they subscribe to. a very depressing reality.
i am not a great fan of the prc political system, but for now at least, it has delivered a rush towards general prosperity unprecedented in human history. it's very hard to explain that away, although other governments must try to do so. the usa in particular enjoyed a period of general prosperity after ww2, the fruit of ww2 'socialism', and later a period of unmatched military dominance after the collapse of the ussr. they are not used to looking like 'yesterday's men.' but they are, and only lies and sabre-rattleing maintain a shaky front of continuing dominance. this is a period of great danger to the world. as trump demonstrated, and now biden, their national direction is in the hands of incompetents and sociopaths.
cross yer fingers, because sanity is not in charge.

no, mr janssen, what is good for america is good for america. the rest of the world sends very few children to international meetings. usa continues to have a following, because nations may profit from the scraps, or rulers take protection from submission to usa.
i do what i can to remind the world, that 'democracy' has a meaning, and it is nothing like what is practiced by the usa, at home and certainly has no international application at all.
the tide is turning, and it is no longer immediately fatal to reject usa demands. a few who do are murdered, and many are bought, but resistance has reached self-sustaining levels.
it is unfortunate that the two major nations resisting usa hegemony are themselves oligarchies, russia might even be a dictatorship, but the moral standing of the usa elective oligarchy is no better.
homo sapiens has touched democracy, but it clearly is not natural, and i suspect we will destroy our world before we get there. in the meantime, it seems best to support the less bad nations, prc and russia..
by the way, your nation murders people who oppose them. it is foolish to suggest that others have rights, while the cia is a licensed killer.

i didn't have to travel far to learn what usa 'freedom' is. i just joined the air force, and they took care of the travel. like most of the ground crew, i never was shot at. but, as a radio monitor, mandarin and vietnamese, i got some idea of what our guys were up to. occasionally, the ugly reality leaked into public view, you probably heard about 'mylai.'
about 350 viets were gathered up from their village and machine-gunned. the grunts involved were not charged with murder, they were discharged instead. an officer did a couple of years 'confined to quarters' and then released.
why was mass murder treated so lightly? because it was commonplace, and part of the command direction of the war. every officer from 1st lieutenant to westmorland should have been hanged, if the munich standards were applied.
so i am not a civilian of the usa any more. leave if you can, you are living in a moral hell hole.

this question is rhetorical, i hope. the people who framed the usa constitution were aiming for stasis. there is a 'presider', a body of old rich white men, and a body of gentry, to carry the claims of the people to the attention of their 'betters.'
the establishment document of the prc is recent, action-oriented and tasked with lifting china into the front rank of nations.
so the chinese have much better leadership now, and this will continue until the new 'mandarinate' of the cpprc is over-taken by age and corruption.
usa will never recover until it gets a new kind of government, and none is in view-- even what passes for intellectual discussion only concerns itself with personalities.
humanity needs democracy, for survival. but it seems to be too hard, just unsuited to the capabilities of homer sap. extinction looms, 'missed it by that much!' will go on the last tombstone.

biden needs a "see, i tried," exercise, but he has nothing to offer. his sponsors and his handlers are determined to continue the dominance of usa in world affairs, by all means.
short of war? interesting question. war would be insane, between the protagonists, but it could happen if usa pressed too hard. perhaps india and philippines could be encouraged to test prc courage. they both have reasons to kick the prc ankle, to buoy up internal power.
there is no good will in the usa government, it is rotten with greed and arrogance, and possibly conscious that usa greed fed the rise to competitive power by prc. that must rankle those few in usa capable of sanity.
prc government is currently much stronger in simple mental competence and national spirit. so long as the bombs don't fly, they will win. i wish that were a given.
