All the people stuck in this idea of having to explain away every Russian mistake who are trying to make the loss of West Kherson some type of very smart strategic Russian decision: When an army retreats because it does not want to fight for ANY reason, it is a victory for the other side. In the case of Kherson, a real big one. Whatever the reason. Ukraine did it in Kharkov, again in Kherson, Soon by the Nuclear plant, then obviously cut the land bridge to Crimea. Just accumulate enough soldiers and the other side will pull out. That does not reflect well on a supposedly second military power, if it can't supply an army because of a river. Others, long time ago, crossed oceans and supplied armies, all the way back to Hannibal.

  2. Slow grind is NOT an advantage. Russia will lose at that game, given the stakes. Likely the russian army trained to a different kind of war, may be refusing to fight with its hands tied. Therefore this grind thing is more like an easy agreement for the politics and the military. The west knows that and will exploit it. The very easy way to save Kherson West was a move on Odessa. That would have thrown big monkey in the arena.
