Egypt of the old is long gone, it has been replaced multiple times by multiple ethnicities the latest of which are arabs, Ethiopians on the other hand have constantly and continously lived in the area even the ethiosemitic speakers have been in Ethiopia for more time than arabs have been in Egypt, it doesnt matter if they aren't that genetically divergent from ancient Egyptians but the fact is ancient and modenr Egyptians share little to no similarities while Ethiopians are basically the same with their ancient ancestors.

Its not lowering, sudan has been facing worse and worse floods over the years forget lowering of the river, it has been constantly increasing for the last decade or so slowly but surely, 2 years ago it reached a level it hadn't reached in more than 100 years, judge for ur self.

Egypt is strong but doesnt have that kind of projection. on top of having a large population , Ethiopia has one of the most rugged landscapes ,its a natural fortress which would make Afghanistan look like a walk in the part in comparison, sudan wouldn't go in an all out war with Ethiopia the government simply lacks popular support, the other countries like eritrea & southsudan are aligned with Ethiopia, not to forget the economic toll a waging a war with a country far from theirs would bring to Egypt plus there are no guarantees egypts rivals like israel and turkey wont take the opportunity to take out egypt while it is busy fighting Ethiopia, all in all chances of Egypt fighting and winning a war against Ethiopia with out it collapsing it self are very Blick.

Ethiopia is extracting oil and gas and getting ready to export to the international market,so i dont think an energy deal would do it, maybe egypt should be the number one electricity buyer from Ethiopia making sure they wont lower the water levels it would hurt their economy, plus buying electricity from Ethiopia is easier, less consequential and less expensive than using fossilfuels, just saying.

@Dunkin Rains flood sudan every year causing billions of dollars in damages, imagine what floods caused by the collapse of a mega dam can cause it would probably take out sudan and much of egypt with it, so not the brightest idea.
