Can't help but wonder if the recent string of sub videos was related to the visit to the Cod, a week ago. I enjoyed meeting Drac, and the rest of the bunch. Thanks to Drac, and the staff of Cod, for serving us lunch!

Exactly what I was thinking. Not only would the pressure in the crew compartment rise to an unbearable level, the CO2 would also build up. There had to be a means of venting the cabin air, to both control pressure, and vent the CO2.

@chedelirio6984 not really. As long as the pressure inside and outside the hull is equalized, the excess air could be vented. The danger is going so deep that the crew starts suffering from the bends when they surface. Men working under pressure in the caissons, building the foundations of the Brooklyn Bridge, often suffered from the bends. The depth of the caissons on the Brooklyn side was 44.5 feet, and 78.5 feet on the Manhattan side. Didn't Drac say the French sub was limited to running 40 feet deep?

@readingrailroadfan7683 iirc, the other two Amagis had hardly been laid down. Kaga had the virtue of a significant amount of construction having already been done, so had the virtue of being a lower cost option.
