wrt the Vanguard vs Iowa gun question, the factor not considered is the number of shells each ship throws at a time. Throw more shells and math says there is a higher probability of a hit. It would be interesting to see a Tennessee and a Nagato square off. The Nagato has larger guns, but the Tennessee sends 50% more shells downrange. Using the numbers on Navweaps, Nagato has a throw weight, using WWII shells of 17,992lbs, while Tennessee has a throw weight of 18,000lbs, amazingly close. Would the blunderbuss effect of Tennessee's greater number of guns win the day over Nagato's individually larger shells?

@WALTERBROADDUS How so? Seems that, if you have a given range of scatter, dropping 12 shells/salvo in that range, rather than 8, increases the likelihood of hitting something, or hitting it more times. If not, then why were some people so obsessed with increasing rate of fire, if not to increase the probability of a hit by sending more shells downrange?

@WALTERBROADDUS well, we could leave it up to Drac to be the tie-breaker.
