@themightynanto3158 Decades ago, I read a book written by a Brit submariner who had served in the Med. iirc, the issue is the Med is shallow and the water was relatively clear, so it was easy for aircraft to see a submerged sub.

@TraditionalAnglican one humorous bit I remember from that book: the Brit subs operating in the Atlantic were painted black, the ones operating in the Med were painted blue. The author's sub was based at Malta. Whenever a sub was observed being repainted black, the money lenders in town would come around looking for the crewmen to collect their loans.

@slavkovalsky1671 the Brit subs needed to be where the Italian convoys to North Africa were running. If the convoys run west of Sicily, to stay away from aircraft from Malta, then to Tripoli, that is where the subs need to be: some of the shallowest waters of the Med. Another path the convoys took was along the Greek coast, then past Crete to Libya. That route also has shallow areas.
