  1. wrt the question of substituting a 20mm AA gun for the Japanese 25mm, from my readings, the Oerlikon 20mm was regarded as ineffective by late in the war. A Japanese 20mm would have been just as ineffective, because the shells are too small to do much damage. If the IJN had licensed the 40mm from Bofors, or the Italian 37mm, it would have made life more challenging for US pilots as those guns could do a lot more damage.
