The British Mk XVI 4"/45 and the Mk XIX twin mount, got me working on a hypothetical where the USN deploys the twin low angle 4"/50, which was developed during WWI, as the battleship secondary, in place of the single 5"/51 used historically. Then, developing a twin 4"/45 and a DP mount like the British Mk XIX, to take the place of the combination of the low angle 5"/51 and high angle 5"/25 that the USN standards were equipped with in the 1930s. The increase in rate of fire and weight of fire offered by the twin 4" is thought provoking. I have read that Jackie Fisher favored more 4" as secondary, vs fewer 6", and that was what he had installed on the Courageouses and Renowns. My analysis indicates he may have been right.
