  1.  @godofprocurement  the Anglo-German naval treaty of 1935 gave Germany 35% of the RN's tonnage, meaning the German navy could be larger than that of France or Italy. Each class of ships limited by the armament and displacement limits of the Washington and First London treaties. The agreement also permitted the Germans to build a U-Boat fleet equal to the RN's. France was not a party to the discussions, and was understandably livid. I can't imagine Germany being allowed a navy that large if France and Italy had participated. My hunch is that, if Germany was a party to the Washington treaty, it would have been limited to parity with Italy and France.
