wrt to fuel spec, we had a saying in my Radio Shack days "RTFM": Read The Freaking Manual. The GME is NOT a regular gas engine. The manual for a 2019 Cherokee says you can use gas as low as 87 octane, but "The use of a 91, or higher, "Premium" gasoline will allow these engines to operate at optimal performance. This increase in performance is most noticeable in hot weather or other heavier load conditions, such as while towing." So, seems we have a well designed engine, brought down by the Stellantis marketing department pandering to cheapskates that want to run their car on the cheapest gas, by claiming it will run OK on 87. I wonder if differences in the fuel grade in the tank accounts for some road tests of a late model Compass, with a GME, praising how smooth and refined the engine is, while other testers gripe about how rough it runs?
Great review. I have been wondering how that engine was put together. Thanks!

@terrycampbell8275 Audi claims the Q3 will run on regular, but, deep in the manual, it says you need to use premium to obtain advertised HP and torque.
Wasn't there a teardown, on this channel, recently, of a Chevy 1.5T out of a Malibu, that had been destroyed by detonation? I have not looked, but I would not be surprised if the manual for that engine says something like the Jeep manual says: hot/high load conditions require premium. What is not "hot/high load"? Maybe coasting down hill, when it's 40 degrees?
I recently read a comment elsewhere, words to the effect "if you have a recent turbocharged engine, and you want it to last, you need to use premium". Maybe we are seeing the proof?
