Then there is the other shoe. The incoming Trump administration, in the US, has promised to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican built cars. VW, and Stellantis, each have two plants in Mexico. Mexico has a free trade agreement with the EU. If Mexican products are priced out of the US market by the tariff, the plants will probably pivot to building for the EU, as their labor cost is far lower than that in the EU. That puts even more pressure on plants with higher labor costs, in Germany and France.
