*"Significant emotional event" * - Nope, more like "Chatfield, there seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today."
25
13:20 British were saved by Wargaming sick "dispersion algorithm" :)
24
Then "Csásári és Királyi Haditengerészet" and then we only have 9 more official languages (albeit several of them Slavic, with a high degree of similarity).
24
@nitsu2947 That debris is probably the remains of the silk bag of the propellant charges.
23
Drach should include a spirit in his merchandise with the sign "Rum Ration - Emergency Only" :)
23
And probably that was the last time when a "conventional" (ie. Dreadnought-typish all big gun, armored battleship) battleship was hit by cannonfire - since the 20mm counts as a canon.
23
@tommeakin1732 After promptly KO-ing the champ
22
38:00 Iowa at 37 knots - destroyer escorts: O.O
22
Yeah, try a method, then check reality.
22
Poor old Franz-Joseph was too optimistic to declare the "Treason of the Century" in 1914...
21
0:32:40 "First modern war of steam and steel and its just ... (ie. a sub) is JUST GONE?!" - flashback to Hunt for the Red October: "Andrei, you have lost ANOTHER submarine?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCHGFkhxInM
21
11:35 Why, a 16" rifle is a nice home-defence weapon :)
20
Gues Who HMS Glorious would like to have those guns... Not to mention, that until 1942 the USS Leginton had 4 twin 8" (eight inch) turrets. Yes, the armament of an economy size heavy cruiser.
20
Many snippets covered by this video were also immortalised by the movie "Operation Pettycoat".
20
Just a reminder: when Mr Lowery talks about Austria, its a bit of simplification, like using England instead of Great Britain - the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy included the current Czech Republik, Slovakia, parts of current day Poland and Ukraine, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and some more. Ports and bases were in current day Croatia. Mostly.
20
Should have waited with this till 13.37 CET, but video is up, so fire up the 8" coffee machine... Its an aoutoloader :)
19
Well, at least Stalin did not liberate them.
19
May I suggest the series on strikes known as the "Bombardment of Ancona" on the 23rd of May, 1915 to be included on "THE" list?
19
"Good Morning Ancona" !
19
5:20 "Something wrong with our bloody ships today"... But certainly not that pretty balcony on the stern.
19
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Marksman_(1915) HMS Marksman?
18
2:35 "Two 37mm gun" - which - as in case with Kaiser Karl VI -were five-barrle revolving, hand cranked Hotchkiss guns. On the channel "Forgotten Weapons" Ian "Gun Jesus" made a very nice video about the gun, even if an infantry support/land arty version. Lets DAKKA!
18
@thanakonpraepanich4284 I don't know. What I know, is that the Japanese army (pre or post WWii?) issued bayonets to the heavy machine guns, to make a point, that it is an assault weapon.
18
@deathsheadknight2137 And VOL1 is mostly made of "Tables of contents"
18
Around 0:25:00 - Coal bunkers as armor: and it could happed, that after a few (even non-penetration) hits coal dust can and occasionally acted as a thermobaric explosive.
17
The Omnissiah accepted the prayers and sacrifices and gave us the Wednesday spcl... ...and coffee.
17
3:40 "highly inventive" - reminds me the old movie "Operation petticoat" (1959). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Petticoat#Historical_accuracy
16
With 6 guns forward, the Bismarck MIGHT have scored a hit or two on HMS Suffolk at their first encounter.
16
MAybe Drach can make a video about the SMS Szigetvár, so he could try Hungarian :)
15
Twin casemate secondaries? Was that idea ever put to use?
15
Oscar, aka Unsinkable Sam was the cat of Otto von Skorzeny and after WWII served on the INS Eliat and on the General Belgrano. ;)
14
cca. 25:00 Hitting the stern: also ships spotting a torpedo USUALLY turned away from it - but if they initiated the turn early, the stern becomes the most obvious part to be hit. Usually rudder NOT in the neutral position. Also I think the aerial torpedoes are a tad easier to spot, because there is Stabby the Stringbag above it in the air :) (OK, aircraft from Taffy 3 did make "dry" torpedo attack runs on Japanese ships, which turned away "just in case" - but during a sharp turn, you do not fire your main guns on my flattop).
14
At last, the Drydock . Coffeee on!
13
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
13
We still need a "Stop hitting me with missiles", albeit it is out of Drachinifel's usual comfort zone.
13
7:00 I guess when (or if) Russia scrapes up the funds to modernise their Kirov/Pyort Velikiy, they will be different as much as the Kongos were. Not that there aren't differences already between the design of this class.
12
A decisive battle is the one in which Japan captures at least 'Frisco and LA. Anything less is just making the war lasting longer.
12
Hah, noone joked about "THIS IS DRACH!" ?
12
A "mere" 1 hours :)))
12
I often wish, we had a larger planet, with bigger seas so navies could have built the ships they wanted and were able to. :)
11
Who tortured Drach with this floaty hotel? :)
11
Press like, check duration, load one BIG mug of coffee...
11
@WALTERBROADDUS Except even the KDY-150 planetary defense ion cannon was on the HMS Canopus, ie on the Imperial Side.
11
2:40 Armament layout - while the Germans had fine dual turrets for their 21cm (8"-ish) guns and up, somehow every navy lacked a reliable dual/twin 6"ish turret by the time....
11
Császári és Királyi Haditengerészet? :)
10
Ah, sky cancer again... No, its Drach. All coffee machines, full steam!
10
Quantity is a quality at its own.
10
@andrewyaden5209 But then an Iraqi unit surrendered to the spotter drone, so "op success".
10
Oh, well, they could add Austro-Hungarian Tier 10 carriers by this amount of speculation.
10
@TheTrueOrion This is a Zumwalt class destroyer. Honest.
