Ah, 6 hours of Drydock..
2
@constantdrowsiness4458 No, not this one. Drach always notes contributors.
2
Theseus' ironclad...
2
With an A and X twin 8"-ish turret could it be better? ;) Or do I need more coffee?
2
@katrinapaton5283 Coffee is good :)
2
Hitting like, getting a cup, before the skipper decides to raise steam from the coffee machine, launch video.
2
Actually even the British got leeched in WWI too...
2
"We missed a moored ship, but luckily the pier collapsed, so we sunk a tier".
2
@toothedacorn4724 The importance of paperwork.
2
Press like, get coffee, sit before the monitor, monitoring...
2
Both honey bagders went for MY coffee... :)
2
Any hope for the "armored tuna" or "Missed me?" (Sms Leitha)?
2
Drach time, coffe time.
2
[ HAL9000 ] ZIG ZAG Ground ZERO Most raiders, maybe all of them had underwater torp tubes.
2
@thesage1096 Hungarian language sources sometimes offer these details.

I would love to see the table Drach worked from. A few "IMHO" additions: - Would check the quad .50 BMG in the light dakka category (a twin 20mm Oerlikon most likely outperforms it, maybe even the single one installation) - The Italian 100mm/L47 is actually a copy of the Austro-Hungarian Skoda 10cm - of 1910 wintage, obviously the mounting is of Italian design. - The US 3" guns AFTER they got powered mounts and the "VT" proxy fuse, they were considered a superior replacement to the quad Bofors 40mm - and after a few itarations it is the pride of OTO Melara today, in form of the 76mm Super Rapid or Compact, with guided shells and water cooling.

@Kevin_Kennelly An old reflex, when the storyteller.says XP, you listen.

3:35:40 - Strafing to suppress/disable guns : craft with multiple .50 and up guns , like P-47 Tbolt with 8x0.50, Whirlwind and later Spit models with 4x20mm, not to mention the Beaufighter or the solid nose A-26 (16 or so 0.50 BMG) does not need to be lucky to knock out AA guns (unless turreted ones). Also, Mid-war the aircraft mounted rocket came into play. Then there is the effect of setting "anything on deck" afire, INCLUDING ready ammo.
2
@waszkreslem9306 Jestem węgierskim przyjacielem.
2
@NM-wd7kx Maybe the armored fuel truck from Mad Max II (with Mel Gibson)
2
31:10 re: angled flight deck - also, as aircraft really do not like sidewinds during landing, it took a while to develop such heavy aircraft, with such powerfull engines, that the slight difference between landing direction and airstream could be dealt with.
2
@asureaskie Without having piloting experience myself, would you like to repeat it on - say - HMS Argus?
2
@xerty5502 When a fish begins to ping, it is maximum 5000 meters, going with 50+ knots, usually perpendicular to the targets course, so relative speeds are over 60 knots. Not a long time.
2
"We are the Polish Navy, here are our ships: Thunder, Lightning and Joe". This is the point, where people wonder who was Joe and dare they ask :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORP_Grom_(1936) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORP_B%C5%82yskawica_(H34) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Danae_(D44) and "Joe": Joseph Conrad (Whose book "Heart of Darkness" inspired the 1979 "Apocalypse Now". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Conrad
2
Moar Drach time... This lunch break will be longer. Oh, coffe ready... :)
2
Is it a Casus Belli to sip on coffee, instead of tea, while listening to the Queen?
2
Actually yes. From Georg von Trapp's book: "5. Because there were so many nationalities under the Austrian fl ag, some of the men had to learn German to be able to function in the navy. They made up counting songs with simple folk melodies to help them learn the language. These were the songs Georg taught his children."
2
Chuck Norris's fishing boat... I need coffee.
2
@bkjeong4302 Never said otherwise, did I? I only said, that they did dry runs (obviously after they dropped the live ordenance).
2
34:00 "Torpedo" - yepp. And there is the night/fog action, where you can sneak on a force and launch a torpedo salvo or an occasional crippled ship or a force chasing your lighter cruisers which just might stumble into those fish... Its a very handy thing to have, as long as the pure oxygen does not blow up your ship.
2
As for plunging fire at 21:22 - I guess it is worth to mention, that the SMS Budapest, an 1890 vintage 5500 ton coastal battleship had its front dual 24 cm turret removed and exchanged for a 38 cm (15") but after a few trial shots they gave up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_Budapest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/38_cm_Belagerungshaubitze_M_16

@super44lover The listed range with the usual max British turret elevation of 14 degrees, thus range was around 14 kilometers (the number 14 is just a coincidence), at that range early 1910's fire control might hit a tipical dreadnought size target. Thus an armored cruiser with 9.2" main guns posed a limited threat within that range to any ship. With a lucky hit, she could have crippled even a dreadnought. Just keep in mind that a German bc or dread can also cripple or outright kill that same ship with a few four-gun salvoes, without luck playing much role in it.
2
0:34 I am envisioning an early, heavy, multiple launcher similar to early torpedo launchers, but above surface, a 19th century equivalent of the Nebelwerfer or the RBU-1000 as a means of small attack craft punching above their weight, in place or in conjunction with a fish/Whitehead (or even spar-) torpedo attack.
2
Ah, the Drydock ;) Happy Children's Day!
2
64 lb'ers - yes, but begun with smoothbore muzzleloaders and finished with rifled muzzleloaders.
2
4+ hours? Need more coffee...
2
Press like, go to coffee maker and thinking about retrofitting electric boiler to oil firing boilers. Or gas turbine?
2
Armouring modern warships: how do you armor radar dishes or AESA plates?
2
How would the wider ( at 2:50 ) application of face-hardened plates and the effectively "second belt" face-hardener bulkhead behind the main belt affect the ships overall "staying power" and survivability?
2
Sounds like Jack Slater from "Last Action Hero".

I was sipping on my coffee, wondering about those U-boat captains and their torpedoes, when this article came up: https://news.sky.com/story/potty-mouthed-parrots-split-up-by-zoo-bosses-after-egging-each-other-on-to-swear-12085608?fbclid=IwAR3SZj3jYLh7Kpsy70iUxUiyiYg-hHAo55ZmTRsXdV_ftIzVCDQiSGB5Iao
2
@Drachinifel Thanks ;)

1, ADS: You deserve those pennies for the next book you buy or even "monitoring" Leitha 2, Kirov: Maybe they will be called Kirov battleships, as per Dreadnought battleships - they are designed to go to slug it out with enemy capital ships and stand their pounding - ie. launching missiles while clearing the skies of an entire supercarrier airwing (with a bit luck).

The Battle of Lissa - special.
1
I wonder if anyone made a uniform 9.2 -10" armed armored cruiser, even on the drawing board? Uniform like 6+ main battery size (fex 2 in turrets 4 in casemates) and up to 4,7" anti-torpedo boat secondaries?
