It's much more difficult to confront this sort of person because you can't out-bully and out-bs him without losing face (Trump on the other hand has no reputation to lose, he's already trolled away all that he has had and is expected by everyone to keep trolling on). That's the problem of Biden, to keep up the "I'm different than Trump" impression he cannot go into assault mode and is being trampled. At the same time he doesn't really have any big arguments except "I'm not Trump", unfortunately.

They know full well they can get away from it and not lying would only make their lives more difficult and give opportunities to the lying competitors.
