It's not about "loneliness", it's about men wanting to allocate affection (proved by material support) to someone who they feel deserves it and is grateful for receiving it. Because it makes men feel better about themselves and more purposeful. It's pretty much biologically hard-wired behavior, similar to most women wishing to become mothers. And it doesn't strictly matter who or what the target of affection is, like it doesn't matter whether you masturbate or have sex. It may be a simulation, but the biochemical effects in the brain are the same - unless maybe you have been brainwashed by society to feel guilty/inadequate beacuse of it. (Ok, it also matters in terms of [not] being able to create a family and reproduce, but that's not necessarily such a great goal to have in an increasingly overpopulated world.)

Mixed feelings about the gym part. The university in my town also bans filming in gym. However, in disciplines such as dance or gymnastics it is actually helpful for the participants to be able to see themselves in order to understand and correct mistakes. So people do film each other against this policy. And I don't blame them and don't particularly care if I appear in their background or not (nor do they make any attempts to "clear the scene" for themselves). As far as I'm aware, they are not "influencers" of any sort, just normal young ppl.

The trouble is that the extremists will usually pretend to be non-extreme at all, and turn the reality on its head, making YOU the extremist. For example, if you want freedom of choice, they would portray that as an extreme demand. And they would also call all the censorship they push as "just a means to eliminate extremism". It is a very slimy ideology and it is not an easy solution to just say "let's all be reasonable" - because the crazy people in their view are perfectly reasonable while you're not.

The attitude is a reflection of paranoia - the people who push the uglification are firmly convinced that portraying above average beautiful/strong/smart people is just a means of oppression - which they must fight against. It's easy to believe this crap because it is part of "victim mentality" - if you are oppressed by powers that be, it provides a convenient path to blame all failures in your own life (most of your own making) on someone else - and also to demand retribution. So this dragging down to average is really a part of a larger life strategy of entitlement and denial.

I think wokism was a failed experiment intended to raise docile, caring generations in order to ensure world peace (and also, as a side effect, to make the authorities imposing this new "culture" remain in power indefinitely). What they did not take into account (just like communists) is that humans are inherently corrupt and evil. So if one country subscribes to this utopia, other countries will only seek to take advantage of those "dumb and naive" competitors. As a result the pendulum now swings back and now we have "Chinese Putin dog-eat-dog culture" of aggression, barbarism and hate spreading back everywhere, and people praising that as their liberation from the woke yoke.
