If you do not want to associate, you should simply ignore it and offer the product based on its usability, license terms, cost. The usual wise approach is to "not feed the troll".

  17. In very early days of LLMs I suspected they would become weaponized to swamp competitors' helpdesks with support requests and inquiries from fake users. This is a form of it happening (here the competitor is the open source project, and the attacker is a big corporation which historically has not been very fond of open source). The brilliant part of this destruction is that to defend against it you need to buy other AI to detect fakery. It is the same business model as in antivirus software (produce malware, then sell software to "keep you safe") and of course the same business model as has worked for 1000s of years for government and military (produce an immediate threat of violence, then protect "good citizens" against it). Generally, the scheme is to produce a problem for someone who then needs your help in solving it, without fully realizing that it was you who made the problem to appear in the first place.

  41. Can you see the correlation with Microsoft's acquitsition of GitHub? Chances are good that their plan as been to destroy and commercialize the platform from the get go. The original line of attack from M$ against open source was to spread FUD and undermine its trustworthiness. Soon they will be able to claim how many "reported security bugs" there are in open source projects, based on these fake reports and official statistics from their "collaboration platform". It's not like the scumbags at Microsoft who launched the original attacks have disappeared, they are still alive and well and must be sorely aware of their temporary past defeat.

  42.  @Idontevenwanachannel  It reminds me of a period in which I experienced how a research institute I worked for applied for a grant and the ministry was said to be "swimming in money" at that time - which they had to spend within a set period else it would "disappear" back into the overall budget. So instead of vetting out projects they were actually telling the grant applicants outright how to rephrase their proposals so as to obtain the funding despite flawed ideas. The world is a strange place when it comes to public spending, redistribution, and politics. (Our project funded by this ministry, of course resulted in nothing except several million Euros wasted.. ok it supported the (modest) salaries of some employees on the payroll for a couple of years, but really nothing good or interesting came out of it, and the bs was fairly obvious from the start.)

  49. Just because every country is ready to sacrifice its citizens in the interest of its oligarchs does not make it right. Ukraine already imprisoning its own young men and preventing them from leaving and forcing them to kill other people is already a war crime (of the exact same sort as Russia's, of course). It doesn't really matter what they do to American journalists or political dissenters. They've already lost all authority be declaring their own people as expendable meat.
