  1. Regarding "cis," it's simple. Cis was created to diminish "normal" people. No longer is there the thing - woman - and the marginal identification - trans woman, which is a departure from the norm, and therefor lesser. Rather, with cis, "woman" is a broad umbrella under which cis and trans women are simple variations - one no lesser than another.

  2. More or less. Cis was brought in to try to put trans and "normal" on equal footing. If we just have women and trans women, then one is a departure from the other, and therefor lesser. But if we have trans women and cis women, they are BOTH living under the same, suddenly broad umbrella - "women" - and are equal.
