It appears that about one-third of the people in this thread don't get what you're putting out there.

@123Althor True. After all, what have old white men ever contributed to civilization.

@123Althor I would be more interested in seeing a list of the accomplishments of white Westerners that ONLY benefited white Westerners.

Tim Evans Except, of course, that increased testosterone HAS actually been proven to contribute to better athletic performance. You may want to consider limiting your analogies to things like memes.

Thank God Vox science indicates that testosterone has a negligible effect on performances in these races. Given that, there is pretty much no reason to NOT give these intersex folks drugs that tamp down their T levels. Vox science indicates that they'd still easily win their races, right?

@thecompanioncube4211 True. But in the case of testosterone and performance, there is causation.

@jmcantila9104 The thing is, we're kidding ourselves if we do not acknowledge that higher T is almost certainly the determining factor here. As you put forth, these are elite athletes. That means that the difference among the top 10 could be considered almost microscopic. Not so if you have a handful of competitors that ALSO have 3x-5x the amount of T in their systems. As things continue to play out, that seems to basically limit who you can even consider to be elite to only whatever intersex competitors may be in the field.

That doesn't mean we have to allow an anything-goes landscape in sports. I know I'm not alone is saying that once I feel there is no attempt at a level playing field being put forth, my interest in a sport drops to zero.

And yet, they were dead nuts on when deciding that this person should be looked at more closely, weren't they?

@JerseySean666 Spoken like someone who has never competed on a high level.

Problem is, no one would be forced to engage in hormone therapy ... as long as they stopped competing against women (in this case).

@lukecoleman7966 There's testing for that, though. Of course, if the Games are in Russia or China they will absolutely cheat where that is concerned.

@lukecoleman7966 Evidence of tampering with the samples that were supposed to be in a secure location (seals broken, etc.) at the more recent games in Russia and China is fairly well documented. I can't remember the name of a recent doc, but I think it was originally geared toward cycling. Regardless, that kind of tampering would indeed have to be sponsored by the state itself. As for L.A., the evidence appears to be fairly solid that they looked the other way regarding Carl Lewis' samples (and I'm sure with a few other athletes, which unfortunately is kind of typical in any Games), but I don't recall any talk of actually going in and tampering with samples that had been provided, so there's a difference there. It's kind of like the difference between "systematic racism" and a lone cop who happens to use the n-word.

@lukecoleman7966 I will still draw the distinction between state-sponsored tampering, and a lab choosing to look the other way. Perhaps there is little difference regarding the end result, but there's a world of difference between the two.

The thing is, no one was asking for a particularly detailed account. The story put out there was so vague that the accused was set up to not be able to provide any real evidence to counter the assault claim. Yet the accusation could not withstand the most modest scrutiny. And it wasn't because some details of that night were in a fog. Ford did not fail because she couldn't remember enough of the particulars from that evening. She failed because the details she did claim to remember - amid PLENTY of vagaries that she put out there - were shown to at least be questionable if not flat-out incorrect.

How stupid can Vox get? You do realize you'll be asking that question every couple of weeks, right? Vox has not yet plumbed the depths of stupidity when it comes to these issues.
1
That's actually true. The only reason we have women's sports to begin with is because without them there are almost no sports in which they'd be capable of competing if we made both sexes compete against each other.
