Should it really count as "short-lived" when the reason the band ended is because the lead singer died? I guess I think the list should be more of bands that streaked brightly across the sky, then disappeared - not those that were forced into oblivion.Just my view, though.

Yeah. Still waiting for that big Ska wave to hit that we were told had arrived with No Doubt. Maybe I'm just too busy listening to all that big band music that Brian Setzer ushered in.

Gavin George As I think I made fairly clear, it's pretty much up to the eye of the beholder. But to me, calling a band's success "short-lived" when often the only reason the band ended is because a key member died - not necessarily because the band's success actually waned - doesn't feel right. To me, that's about like coming up with a list of "Top 10 NFL Draft Busts" made up of Rookies of the Year who suffered career-ending injuries by their third season in the league.

Capnsensible80 Unfortunately, perception of terminology is absolutely relevant. Otherwise, people would be smart enough to know that "decimate" means to reduce by one-tenth. But, since public perception has been shaped by incorrect usage, most people believe that it's synonymous with "devastated." It probably would have been best had they made up two lists - one for bands that ended because a vital member died, and others that simply fell off the face of the earth because they fell out of favor with consumers.
