  1. My father has been playing drums in bands since the 60s. He always said that it was almost incredibly difficult to duplicate Starr because Ringo is a leftie playing a right-handed set-up, which makes for a slight "offness" to his playing.I think it was the former drummer for the Black Crowes who said (to paraphrase) that Keith Moon was the guy if you were a kid with a kit in your basement, but if you were a musician it was always Ringo.I don't know enough about the instrument to write intelligently about it, but I'll trust those sources since what they offer is subtlety rather than gushing praise.

  2. Kim Deal's the bomb. The Pixies have suffered a lot without her, although there does seem to be a little promise to the album being released this month. I've liked most of the stuff she and her sister, Kelley, have done with Breeders, Amps, and Kelley Deal 6000.That said, without collaborators, she's not the same musician either and has just as much of a tendency to fly off the rails as does Black Francis if left unchecked, in my opinion.She's still my favorite Pixie, though. By a LONG way.
