Thanksgiving was a celebration by the Pilgrims to thank the Lord, that He had kept them safe through the past year; and to thank their new-found Indian friends who had not only taught them many skills to help keep them fed in this new world, but had brought the Pilgrims food to keep them from starving while they taught them about this harsh wilderness. On the first Thanksgiving, the pilgrims had an abundance of food to store, eat, and share with their Indian friends that had helped them learn to not only survive in this new land, but thrive in it! The Indians also brought food to share with their new-found friends, the Pilgrims.

The state government of California kept on cutting the funding for the national park staff to do these jobs, like create forest breaks, remove undergrowth in the forests growing near towns, and thinning the forests by removing dead and living trees near housing developments.
