Ringworm is not a worm. It’s a fungus. It’s also self limiting (meaning, healthy children and adults will get rid of it with no medicines; but the problem is, ringworm is very contagious, and it thrives in wet, humid climates amongst people whose immune systems are compromised, and under a lot of stress). Ringworm is very itchy, and herein lies the problem (secondary bacterial infections caused by breaking the skin when scratching, thus introducing bacteria into the wounds). The doctor probably gave antibiotics via pill form, and treated the ringworm with Lamisil (an anti-fungal cream). Ringworm can also be treated with a sulfur based rinse, but that rinse (in liquid form) is not conducive to traveling and high heat/high humidity. Everyone was probably treated for intestinal worms. Also, those with malaria were probably helped, too, with quinine. It’s nice that the doctor could help with the female problems, too.
