He probably found this topic because of the role of Transnistria in the actual conflict. If your familiar with this channel, by the time you should have noticed that he sometimes gives some insights in a journalistic/analytic way on the news he is familiar with (mostly located around Taiwan and hightech related), sometimes giving some subjective thoughts and a more personal conclusion, but he never does that on subjects he only knows from a distance. So yeah it's definitively for another channel, written by someone who has his pan-out objectivity but also possesses more than a grasp of the culture and the everyday life of Moldova as well as the conflict itself. A person who can be a source for a future Asianometry video.

Despite many retroengineering projects, it's quite usual to not be able to repurpose the 90's and 00's generations. If there is a way, devs often occur challenges like assembler-only compiler, old C or C++ standard, DOS program, programmer with parrallel port interface or (in the case of processors) supported only by NetBSD.

  12. The issue is that still adds a lot to the cost and it reduces production capacity even further than actual EUV process as well as reducing yields. So might be possible on some niche applications but not viable for the consumers market. At some point, they wont be able to go further and have to exclusively rely on other ways to improve the efficiency (mainly design and software optimization).

When Samsung or TSMC get rid of obsolete machines, they don't sell them at their initial price. PRC's founders will still have to catch the tech and investing hugely in R&D so they will stay disadvantaged compared to all those competitors who can simply access cheaper second-hand tech.

They have no passion, no message, no thoughts, no emotions, no personality to fuel some kind of judgement and adaptation skill. Though even the on-demand and small quantity services that conveniently use digital print, they use industrial ink or resin printers, not the laser technique. And remember we're talking about industrial production, not consumer or office devices who have other requirements and other safefy rules (toner nanoparticles are very hazardous).

Most microcontrollers are still modified Harvard architecture computers with a separate program memory bus whereas modern PC and server processors operate like modHarvard only when the program is not exceeding cache size and the memory bus is only used for data transfers. IMO using general purpose VN architectures is the first issue here.

Though it's not about EV or combustion engine car, it's about wanting to buy a VW, Renault, Fiat, Volvo, Peugeot instead of foreign cars. Most EU (and NA) people would rather spend more for a well-established local brand with a strong repair shop network. It's not enough to break the prices. Only Dacia did succeed to enter the western EU market 15years ago but it already was the low-cost brand of the Renault-Nissan group exclusive to eastern Europe and it's the consumers who forced the hand by importing them. Other than that, even the american manufacturers had to push their car chassis through existing brands like Seat or Opel to sell them. Japanese and Korean brands still have small market shares in EU, despite generally being a bit more affordable. Now add the fact that in EU there is a lot of resentment about security and privacy to buy from PRC. This is not at the level of NA but way more frightening than the Japanese then Taiwanese and Korean product waves during the last decades of the 20th century.

This is extremely true with undersea power lines and one of the reason we barely do underground lines as well. Those days we only use AC because of historical reasons and the technological inertia it created. Going full DC will require a lot of changes, both in the power distribution network and the electrical appliances compatibility (which could need some dedicated lines with a local inverter inside the electric box)

  31. @Lycanthrope No need for a Windows port. Android, ChromiumOS, GNU/Linux and BSD run extremely well on ARM whereas Microsoft still has performance difficulties and made several failed attempts. Most embedded/server/industrial computers don't run Windows, even when using x86 chips. Although major Linux distributions have quite mature Risc-V ports now, SoCs just need a few years of refinement then get economy of scale to become viable for most consumers usage.

For example, there are plenty of buildings that have useless decorations, but the architecture has to be somehow practical. Moreover, the word art by himself originally described all forms of mastering and aesthetic of techniques, including all sorts of practical things like martial arts. And again nowadays artists have to master their fundamental techniques before being able to create pieces of art.

Sure Linux got rid of its old ASM pieces to be plain C (and now Rust) but in the mean time Android mostly got rid of Java runtime to compile software during install like BSDs do, despite the vast improvement of ARM SoCs. Similarly, developing production software for microcontrolers is not done with extremely inefficient/portable code like MicroPython or Arduino. And sometimes ASM is still used for critical timing functions. Same thing with desktop applications: Developing small tools and games with high level languages and APIs can be done without taxing too much of the increasing computing resources (even on laptops and embedded) but it's never used for developing AAA games or production applications that want to use every resources available to speed up the execution.

Though for right to repair, the manufacturer should have that in mind during the PCB design instead of using unusual pinouts/packages or component characteristics.
