  2. It will be pronounced quite similarly in French (and yes it's a French name) except "basil" will be bazal (both "a" pronounced as simple /a/ vowels) and "jet" will be a simple /ʒ/ consonant, not the /dʒ/ diphthong. English likes to overcomplicate pronunciations.
