@desertodavid and too focused by his narrative, the writer totally eluded important cities like Lanzhou which are very old Han settlements in the West of this line. The paragraph about minorities is also full bs since most of diverse ethnic minorities live in the South East and eastern cities like Xi'an are notorious for their Muslim minoriity. Though among the fifty minor ethnic groups recognized by the state, only a fraction in the West have issues with the central authority. Finally, talking about Uyghurs where there are other even smaller ethnicities as well in the far West Xinjiang (Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Tatars and even orthodox Russians) is really the sign of a lack of proper research.

@Nerwesta of course we should care, it's like debunking fake news or propaganda. I doubt the type of audience you describe care about the geographic and historical details just made to legitimate the sketchy content. These people just want an easy-to-digest non-elaborated answer of the title, not a 18min video.
