@Limemill The French settelements were all along the Mississippi river. A large part of the midwest was called Louisiana but the actual Louisiana state where cajun were deported is only the most southern part of this former colony and their French dialect comes from a different root. Missouri/Illinois French comes directly from Québec, whereas Cajun comes from Acadian. So what spoken in the video is very close to the old Québec dialect, without any acadian distinctive traits.

@bellyjewel Where you see locations with French names in NA, you can be sure those were French settlements.

@HkgHkg-gu3rd Probably because Louisiana was their home for more than 100 years. And because Québec is not the same location, with a different culture. It took another 100 years for New Brunswick to recognize French as an official language. And NB is not even the whole Acadia. Also after the deportation, many places were populated by German, English, Irish or Scottish immigrants so there is no possibility to repossess the land of their elders.

Most Frenchs still knows a bit of their regional dialect/language. They don't look down on them, they often regret to not have fully learned it from their elders and maintained this cultural heritage.
