@Lordsarix AOSP and Chromium are open source softwares, meaning audits and removal of callhome lines are done by a lot of non-Google employees. Check an Android distro called Replicant : they remove any proprietary firmwares so if those kind of people are using Android, it's safe to say the call-home lines are removed even if the project is financed by Google.

@RackaApps I am aware of Treble but the huge majority of phones still running aren't upgradeable to Android 8 and there still are plenty of brand new devices sold with an older version. It will take several years before Treble will be a solution for most devices and maybe a decade for a nearly complete replacement of the whole world fleet of smartphones/tablets. Same with UEFI on ARM computers : Google just started on its new Chromebooks and it will be a long time before any IOT/RaspberryPi-like comes with it.

@bonbonpony You can edit the code and recompile it, that's what a lot of linux distributions does to those web browsers.
