By that logic infantry is obsolete becase a bullet can end them, jets and helicopters are obsolete because a stinger can end them, obsolescence is not about vulnerability but finding another thing that makes the same jobs as a tank for example but better, nothing makes that job better so the tank is not obsolete.   58. No, it's not you can use the same penetrator length but by using a bigger casing on the shell which is more powder and a longer barrel better performance can be achieved due to the extra muzzle velocity.
