  1.  @mightymystery9204  You make a lot of assumptions. The biggest of which is that I'm an American. Thankfully, I am not! I just pointed out that emotional involvement with killing was not relevant - just part of the job. The Armed Forces train you HOW to kill. It is the Government that tells you WHO to kill! It wasn't a SIDE that won. It was common sense and the law that won. Tell me, if that had been a police officer who was threated, chased, attacked, beaten, and they tried to take his gun and aimed their own at him - would you still say he did not shoot in self defence?

  4.  @mightymystery9204  You complained about " the slain can be called arsonists". a) "arsonist - a person who intentionally starts a fire in order to damage or destroy something" - Cambridge English Dictionary. b) Someone threatening to kill you, then chasing you and grabbing your gun IS sufficient 'cause' for lethal force in self defence. c) You are absolutely right - "This was a situation easily avoided by an immature individual staying home." If all those rioters, looters and arsonists had stayed at home, none of this would have happened! d) It WAS 'lawful' self defence - as determined by the jury. e) He 'provoked' the attack by putting out a fire? by carrying a gun? by standing up to rioters and looters? I expect he may take the offer of an internship at the Senate, though he may well be awarded enough money from suing the media to never have to work again! As to whether I enjoyed the thought of killing - it is a moot point. It's part of your job in the Marines!
