  1. Several years ago, my car was scraped by a council dustcart in the narrow street where I lived. As my insurance was coming due for renewal, I asked them 'if I claim for the damage, will my premiums go up?' They immediately increased my premium by £107, and took the payment via the card details they had on their system(!) "because there had been an incident". I never made a claim - and will never insure with Admiral again!"

  2. So, if you take your car to a garage for repairs/service, and the mechanic has had a few beers the night before, and uses the breathalizer to start the engine, your insurance could be cancelled! I recently returned to work after a 3 year sabbatical. so needed to add the 'commuting' section back onto my insurance. When the insurance company discovered that I would be doing a different job at the same company, they increased my premium. They could not explain how, despite making the same journey and parking in the same carpark as before, what I did during my work day would change the way I commuted! Insurance companies look for ANY excuse to milk more money from policy-holders!
