@A4Natty Since the objective of the SMO is demilitarisation of Ukraine, and Russia has demilitarised more than 120,000 UA troops so far this year, I'd say it's going to plan, wouldn't you?

Most of what you've written is true - until Ukraine surrenders and/or signs an agreement to change that. Don't forget that Russia is in Ukraine as requested under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The DPR and LPR will never agree to be under Kiev rule. Neither will the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which was never 'Ukrainian territory'.

@VorbildRoß The Lieber Institute at West Point questioned the 'Statehood' of the DPR and LPR. "But in terms of satisfaction of the criteria for Statehood, they fail on the basis of the “independence” criterion." "This is especially the case when the entity is “dependent upon its foreign sponsor” because that brings into question the Statehood condition precedent of independence". This also brings into question whether Ukraine now qualifies as a 'State'!
