  1. I’m surprised you didn’t add a little more perspective by mentioning that the French ships (hiding?) in British ports and harbours refused to allow the RN access. Several British sailors were killed by the french when eventually these ships were boarded.

  3. It’s a pity you didn’t go into just a bit more depth on this matter. Petain - the man who surrendered France to Germany - increasingly blamed Britain for the french defeat and once his vichy government was established became (in all but name) an ally of Germany to the extent his own government began rounding up Jews for the gas chambers and even congratulating Hitler on German successes and condemning Britain for fighting. Charles Degaulle the leader of the free French forces was consulted on the Mers-el-Kebir fleet and agreed it must be destroyed as he was fully aware Petain would succumb to German demands. Degaulle subsequently broadcast to the french nation that this was a “terrible but necessary” act.

  7. The latitude does have an effect. The angular velocity at the equator is different from the angular velocity at 45 degrees of latitude.

  8. Bull Reeves Pisses me off how the mission of the Bismarck was to avoid fighting and pick on unarmed merchant ships carrying supplies and children being evacuated. I guess we'll both have to be pissed off.
