  1. Respectfully disagree on part of this. Most computer time is idle. A lot of Linux wouldn't exist if all the shell scripts had to be rewritten in assembler to be perfectly efficient or something. That said, I completely agree that you should "waste" some time on dead-ends to find actual good ideas that work for you. Maybe Vim (or something else) is not your cup of tea, but it's good to try out new stuff, you might find a gem.
