You are 100% right. Just like women have traits which drive men to them, men also do. Just improve yourself, and do not chase after women. Also, "happy wife, happy life" is BS. Make sure you are happy on a relationship, and do not let your needs be swept under the rug. Women have a different language for things, so learn to speak it and be good at it; call her out on any form of disrespect, minor as it may be. You can slowly craft the wife of your dreams, even. Just be fair, and she will respect you for it.
