  1. One word: standardization. Imagine if changing DE only changed the DE. Another word: modularity. Imagine if it was easy to fix (or swap!) what's broken, or add features.

  2.  @wacesferpit  thanks, that's exactly my point. I think everyone's just used to it, but the whole Unix philosophy is entirely absent from DEs. It feels like they all try to reinvent everything, and implement everything, in their own unique special way.

  3. Alternative question: Are people who whine about what RMS and Linus said good for Linux? Maybe not. Maybe we need a lot more people with their atitude. Maybe you should defend their honesty, and redirect your rage at the dishonest people, also known as journalists.

  5. Don't get me wrong every other Blender feature is amazing and it's the best piece of software ever, but you know you've gotten used to Linux when you start thinking Blender's video sequence editor is actually good. It has a long way to go before it's halfway decent.

  6. It's a software that converts HTML, Javascript and soy into pixel slideshows. If I'm not mistaken it's the backend for the IDE that GitHub made.
