  1. Sadly it's not that easy. The west is also to blame, they could end this immediately by negotiating a peace agreement (i.e., keep Ukraine neutral and don't have it join NATO/EU). The west wants to win the war rather than avoid the war - they don't care about Ukraine at all.

  2. They don't care about Ukraine. NATO wants Ukraine as a vassal state and they also want to secure the totally-not-bioweapons labs in Ukraine. They'll fund Saudi Arabia and Iran just to spite Russia, they'll turn a blind eye to Yemen.
