If think that, if a hose coupler end fails and you replace it, it is more likely to fail again because the kits cannot duplicate the factory attachment strength between hose and coupler. Also, if a rubber or PVC hose ruptures, you can fix it at the cost of $10-20 and a few inches of hose length. But if a stainless steel or collapsible hose ruptures, the entire thing is garbage.

Hi Todd, Can you buy a 25’ length of the best (or best two) collapsible, rubber, and PVC / nylon hoses, leave them outside for a year, and retest?

In December 2023 we moved into a house, and shortly after that we needed work done that required outside water supply but I did not have a hose. So I drove to the (store name redacted) and bought (a hose). It did what we needed, but I quickly learned to hate it. It is unbelievably heavy yet kinks if you look at it wrong, and pulling it across grass feels like dragging a dead horse up a roof. Shortly after that I watched this episode, and the next time I was at (other store name redacted) I just happened to see a bright yellow 100’ Gilmour brand hose, so I bought it. And holy crap is it better. It does kink once in a while, but only if I am doing completely bone headed things like doubling back on myself multiple times. The Gilmour is connected to the faucet at the front of the house, and the crap hose is at the back. I keep meaning to replace the crap hose with a Gilmour but also keep forgetting.

Is there a way you can expose them all to UV 24/7 for a couple months, simulating a couple years of use, and how they resist becoming brittle or getting weak spots?
