I think the KM’s greatest operational successes and notable contributions were 1) Weserubung, in which they lost almost half of their destroyer fleet 2) Cerberus, shortly after which Gneisenau was destroyed 3) bombarding the Red Army in the Baltic from autumn 1944 through war’s end. Since 1800, has any other navy after suffered so ignominious a fate, short of the nation it served having collapsed totally? Heck, the RM surface elements fought the RN on more even terms, and even after France fell the MN continued to exist and affect the strategic picture in a way the KM rarely did.
