  2.  @AdamMGTF  Honestly? A very low % of US roads are “planned” effectively, if at all. Many of them, especially in our older cities (yes I know … “older” in US terms) where all the roads were originally horse / cart paths between buildings, and today are awful for cars. Outside the cities, even major roads often follow paths that mirror 200-to-500-years-old thinking around “what is the best path for people walking or using animal-drawn transport to follow?” In many places, the road shape planning must have been done by people with an inverse understanding of physics which explains roads on curves that are dead-flat, or even canted away from the direction of the turn. And please do not get me started on how awful the materials are, or our fascination with paving up new crap rather than really fixing the roads we already have.
