  2.  @Aelxi  Converting those ships would have been very very expensive and resulted in CVS that could carry not-many aircraft and struggle to reach 23kts.

  4.  @satern7473  If you’re constrained by the 35k tonne limit, it’s hard to produce a traditional 16” gun ship that has sufficient armor and speed to be useful. The whole point of the Nelsons was to put nine 16” guns on a ship without ruining either armor or speed (at least no worse than the Nelson’s 23kts).

  5.  @fxgjolteon4781  Probably higher human casualties but the ability of the US to replace losses in a way the others couldn’t would have yielded much the same result.
