I think Drach discussed this in a later DD, but: Changing out the guns themselves was do-able. But the entirety of the main ammunition storage and conveyance would have required replacement, to handle the larger and much heavier 14” charges and shell. It would have been an enormous commitment of labor and materiel to produce a ship that would be 25 years old at the start of WW2, whose armor and speed were only as good as, and often inferior to, almost any capital ship she would have faced in WW2, and whose main armament - 8 14” guns - would have been among the least powerful.
