Or the RN destroying the fleet at Mers el Kebir, or the US and RN silencing Jean Bart at Casablanca, or the entirely different treatment and later career of Richelieu.

Anyone who knows better, is probably too drunk to type it out.

5000 men across 74 ships, not even 70 per…imagine being one of just 80-100 sailors aboard SMS Konig or Derrflinger. Talk about “ghost ships.”

@jeffbybee5207 No, obviously this episode was produced by a well-disguised Drach.

@MrTarmonbarry If a ship’s hull is steel and you wrap it in aluminum cables in the presence of seawater…gonna need a damn ton of sacrificial anodes. I think poster was referring to cabling inside ships. Wiring was very vulnerable to battle damage, and because speed of repair was paramount, rather than locating all wiring breaks and replacing specific sections, entire runs of cabling were often replaced, increasing the total amount of wiring by a significant fraction of the original.

8:40 Why would a neutral nation refuse to host the interned Hochseeflotte?

@41hijinx22 If the Kaiser was so against confronting the RN, why did he appoint Scheer as CinC of the navy? Scheer had been openly critical of both von Ingenohl and von Pohl?

I'm Learnding Well at least he was measuring in metric. Credit for that anyway.

The German navy’s goal at Jutland wasn’t to break out into the Atlantic. It was to lure out, isolate and destroy a significant portion of the RN battlecruiser fleet and whatever battleships might be attached in support.

@JESL_TheOnlyOne Ironically (tragically) by the late 20s the western allies had come to regard Germany as a useful check-block on potential Soviet expansion into Europe, and so had even less inclination to monitor Germany’s compliance with the treaty. When Germany regained the Ruhr, those factories were able to switch to large scale military production very quickly.
