Could you kindly produce and present an episode about a man who “missed dates with destiny” three times during the late18-early 19th centuries, but without whose involvement those three may not have happened?
I believe the life of Archibald Cochrane, 9th Earl of Dundonald, and the role he played in development of coal tar gas, tar macadam, and tar-coating of ships’ hulls, is history ... that deserves to be remembered.
Further, his son played a role in the development of the convoy system which, some 55 years after his death, saved Great Britain from starvation by German UBoats.
And then, 25 years later, saved Great Britain, again, from starvation by German UBoats.
