  2. I grew up in central PA. As a teenager I visited a few regions in Canada for fishing vacations. But I never spent time in any other US state, and until I graduated college and moved to NJ, NJ felt more “foreign” to me than Canada. Consider, then, that a lot of Americans don’t spend extended time in a different US state, let alone different country, until their adulthood, if even that. It’s easy then to see how somebody who grew up never traveling further than 200 miles from their birthplace would perceive anywhere further than that ~~ “foreignland.”

If they request a court date, don’t worry about showing up to justify the charge. They’re the ones who have to prove their innocence.”

Your response sounds a lot like “I really hate pasta but you can’t hate pasta because I don’t.” The officer did not describe “impeding traffic” or cite a relevant statute of minimum speed on that particular road. He pulled the person over and then tried to find a reason to justify it. When none such presented itself, he handed the driver a piece of paper, described it as an “unofficial notice” with no effect, and instructed him to throw it away because it was meaningless.

  24. I don’t think the first wave ever really ended / ebbed. A few states got case / death increases down to a few 100 / few dozen per day, but the national data never reached a plateau let alone decreases. Then a bunch of states decided “close enough for us” and told everybody to hit the bars.

Legislators know this. Their voters, who shriek about government interference in their Great American Way of Life (and yet vote for candidates who claim they will “fix inflation and gas prices”), don’t. Legislators also know this.

I support the end goal—NRA long ago stopped being about supporting individual Americans whose sport, hobby or whatever involved firearms, and about helping gunmakers sell more product. But the timing of this is terrible. By all accounts, T’rumps campaign has been struggling to find the sort of messaging against Biden that they developed against HRC, and which served them so well, four years ago. This is exactly the rallying cry they’ve been unable to create on their own.
