Or, wash the offending item by hand. It is very likely a chunky pot, or wide pan, or similar item, and removing this from the machine will make moving the rack much easier and free up a lot of space for plates and bowls. And, it is likely that the chunky pot or wide pan is either only a little dirty (you used it to boil pasta or bake a cake), in which case washing by hand is pretty easy, or incredibly gross (you used it to make fudge or a lasagna), in which case it may need some good old hand brush work.
