Yep, a conservative 100 hours times $250 an hour is $25k in labor. For a salvage title van that might bring $2500 and is still going to corrode from the salt water in places one never even though of. Totally doable.

My friend and I drove out to the Very Tip of Galveston Island by the ship channel and dropped blotter one night. After watching the city burn for several hours, we tried to leave but the tide had come in. No Land In Sight. Guessing at the path to take in the dark sent us through some Deep water. The truck would sink to the bottom, grab traction and lunge forward. Know we were floating cause the engine red lined till the tires bit over and again. Amazingly the engine never stalled. I'd still bet against it, but things do happen.

This was the Late '80's in Louisiana but one night we were on our way back into town on a two lane highway that went through a neighborhood with several Juke Joints. We roll up on Hundreds of Black People out in the street Dancing. My friend was probably Three Times the legal limit to drive, but he confidently says, "Watch This. I'm fixing to show 'em how to Walk the Dog." Truck parked in the Middle of the road, the reddest Red Neck you'd ever met gets out and dances a couple songs. He gets back in, the crowd parts and we drive away.

Turns the engine into an improvised hydrogen bomb. Could have leveled the whole city.

It's all double speak. It's not actually the MNRA that gets you, but the resulting mutated genes.

Agree, with "salvageable" coming after "totaled". Understand the theory of hydrolock, kinda like open headers could let cool air warp exhaust valves. Hydrolock would only happen after a non running engine is completely submerged under water, but then it's not going to crank up anyway. Best repair advise comes from getjerry, "Remove spark plugs. Crank engine and rev it to spew out water. Replace plugs and wipe down cylinders to get rid of extra moisture." Lesson: never take mechanic advise from a magician. Biggest unexpected props goes to no one in comments referring to it as a "motor".
